Weapons of?

Ok, thanks to the trip to New York I have another book under my belt. I just finished Jeff Ott's "Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Real War On Terror". Finished would be a slight exaggeration considering the amount of times that I skipped paragraphs and pages.

Here is my view of the book. I think that Jeff Ott isn't a very good writer, but he does have some decent points. The basis of the book is that the meaning of "Terrorism" can be applied to anything that induces violence on something else. He focuses on terrorism in our own community such as domestic violence and even cigarettes. His main point is that we are so scared of the middle east when realistically, in the year that 9/11 happened terrorism took one third of the amount of lives suicide did (which was less than 1/10 of what cigarettes did).

Because I have different views on MANY of the subjects Jeff Ott wrote about, I skipped over several rants. My number one problem with the book is that Jeff Ott is so concerned with the amount of death in our nation, but he is unbelievably pro-choice. What? In the chart that he made himself, the biggest killer in our nation is heart disease which took over 440,000 lives in 2001. The chart didn't include abortion which, according to abort73, took 1.21 million lives in 2002. That doesn't really make sense to me.

One small note, I didn't put a link to abort73 because although their information is accurate and I appreciate what they do. I think the shock value that they use is very unnecessary.

Okay. You know I totally agree with this post. Especially how pro choicers are so quick to point out the injustices in the world but abortion is in no way an issue for them. In their mind a life isn't a life until...Well there's the problem. You talk to five different pro choicers and you're going to get five different answers to when life begins. Most of them believe that abortion is okay because they think that a child in the womb is just a lifeless lump of tissue. They don't subscribe any level of personhood to the child. That's why I think that the images they show on Abort73.com are very necessary. The reason Schindler's list was so highly critically acclaimed and considered one of the most important films of our time is because it graphically portrayed the reality of the holocaust. And lets be honest, the abortion epidemic is definitely a holocaust. It's just like it says on the website. Words only go so far. When confronted with the brutal reality of abortion it's hard to argue against. If you are pro life and you see the images they should bother you. We're not supposed to be comfortable with it. It's supposed to upset us and spark us into action. If you are pro choice and it bothers you then you have to ask yourself why. If it's not a life then why is it disturbing. If it is simply a lump of tissue then it shouldn't be a big deal. It's easy for pro choicers to justify their "no personhood" arguments when they are not confronted with arms, legs, mouths, eyes, and hands. I believe the images are very shocking but I don't believe they are used for shock value. They just aren't afraid to show the ugly reality of what I view as the biggest travesty and injustice in the world. Abortion has been legal in this country for 35 years now and Planned Parenthood who is the biggest provider of abortion services is one of our nations most celebrated companies. It's time to stop coddling the issue for fear of offending. The only reason the images are offensive is because the act is offensive.
